fuel filter ?

got the truck a few months ago has been running like crap as of late . so
i get a new fuel filter today and changed it dont know how long this one has been in there but it was all most dripping with a black ish looking oil and all most fell apart when i took it off the lid has any one had or seen one like this
was a little scary to me.

97 f 250 4*4 auto 7.3 4 '' ,pipe , chipped,306,480 and counting

Ya thats pretty common for a high milage motor. Black filter is a good indication of injector o-rings getting bad. You should probably take the fuel pressure reguator off of the side of the fuel bowl and clean the little screen.
