Hey, I have a 1997 F250 7.3. Its had a pretty hard life. It smokes white on startup (raw diesel, not coolant) and now does it almost all the time as its getting colder here in Saskatchewan.

I hooked it up to my elm327 scanner and FORscan.
My ects went up ok until about 50*celsius (122*F) and then it all of a sudden said -160*C
I imagine the other reading that always says -40 is the one i shouldn't be reading.

I have two screenshots of the gauges.

Error codes were
P0470
P1212
P1211
and then my battery light came on before i shut it off.
The oil temps were too low to run a cylinder contribution test.

What do you guys think?

Kyle,

I have seen this same thing happen with my setup. FORScan with a compatible reader. I have heard that the ECT is not really "hooked" up in our trucks. There is an engine coolant sensor, but it is only used for the gauge. The PCM is primarily looking at the engine oil temp EOT PID.
