Which type of oil to use for my 96 F250 7.3?

Hey everyone, I just recently bought a 1996 Ford F-250 7.3 powerstroke and Im going to do an oil change this week. I’ve researched on many forum and some say that Rotella is the best but which Rotella should I us T4 T5 or T6? I live in Los Angeles. I’ve also heard that the Motorcraft Diesel motor oil is good too.

I've ran Valvoline 15w40 in my truck since it was new. Right now it is Valvoline Premium Blue 15w40, if I was to use a synthetic it would be their Premium Blue Extreme 5w40

same here. valvoline premium blue. used to be called all fleet plus.

it goes in everything i own. the 88 diesel has 495,000 miles on it, the 02 diesel has 195,000 on it, the 2004 gas engine has 254,000 on it, and 2014 has 114,000 on it. none have ever been opened up.

you can talk to different people and hear stories about different oils. everyone has their preference.

as long as it is diesel rated, you are golden.

That’s a good looking truck you bought if it’s the one in your profile picture. I’ve been following the previous owner on IG for a while now.
I use Rotella T5 15w-40.
I’m sure the Motorcraft is a good oil too since ford recommends using it.
But I’ll stick with the T5 for me.
As long as you keep the maintenance up it will be fine. These motors like clean oil.

I used rotella for a while until I started doing oil analysis, then I switched to delo isosyn 15w-40, and have had some better results.

Everybody has their preference

I use Amsoil Heavy Duty/Marine Diesel Oil 15w-40 with a 12 TBN content. It is recommended for any diesel prior to 2007. Im a dealer so I get that wicked discount. The stuff out preforms anything I have used prior to it including Shell Rotella, and prior to that I used Mobil. I also use Donaldson filters or WIX and in a pinch Ill nab Motorcraft.

no disrepect to you Johnny, but after seeing what amsoil did to three engines i would not recommend it for use in anything................ and neither will the amsoil dealer who got screwed by amsoil when they told him to pound salt.

I use delo isosyn 15w-40, used to use Rotella

I Agree with the window licker, I would never use amsoil. That would be like pouring dish soap in my motor

Rotella T4 15w-40 summer 10w-30 winter and Donaldson DBL 7405 filter, which is much larger than stock, usually swap out at 7,000-8,000 kms.
