Post Signs of crank sensor going out?

Hey guys i was driving around quite a bit this morning and noticed my truck would lope a little as i was slowing down and the engine was returning to idle (under 25mph or so). Just wondering if i should be worried about the crank sensor going out? Any tests i could do to it without using an oscilliscope? Thanks.

Re: Signs of crank sensor going out?

On our trucks it is actually a cam position sensor (since the sensor wheel is on the camshaft). With my own trucks, it was generally just an occasional "hickup" (engine cutting out) and then an eventual stall. They are only about $20, so if you think its going bad, replace it. If that isn't it, you now have a spare for the glovebox (always good to have on hand). Cheers!

Re: Signs of crank sensor going out?

Thanks. I know there have been a million threads on it but i really cant seem to come up with anything solid. Whats the general consensus on the whole grey sensor vs. black sensor argument? What exact brand should i buy? Motorcraft only?

Are the different colored sensors the difference between motorcraft and international?
