cant get trans back on truck

I have a 96 5 speed crew cab and can not get the trans mission back on after changing the clutch and fly wheel.

Is there any kind of trick to doing this?

Re: cant get trans back on truck

are you sure the splines are the lined up? are you sure the new clutch disc slides over the input on the tranny other then that they can be a pain...

Re: cant get trans back on truck

i popped my dowel pins out and put them in the block side, not the transmision. that makes lining it up real easy.

me and my buddies through mine up there real easy. we also had a 2 post lift and a hydraulic trans jack

Re: cant get trans back on truck

did u use the clutch plate centering tool, and did u replace your pilot bearing and throwout bearing, if u haven't replaced those 2 bearings i wouldn't put it back in yet, use your clutch alignment tool and get the plate centered and make sure u are going in at the same angle the crank is setting, put the trans in second gear so u can turn the output shaft and rotate the splines and slide it in there

Re: cant get trans back on truck

If you put the trans in gear, you can turn the transfer case to slip the spline into the clutch.

Re: cant get trans back on truck

my buddy ran into this a couple weeks ago u may not be lined up just perfect with the pilot bearing, it takes a lil wiggling but if u get the front of the shaft in the pilot bearing where u can wiggle it and know for sure ur atleast started into the pilot bearing it will be much easier to get aligned, do u have it started into the splines on the clutch?

Re: cant get trans back on truck

i had gotten the tip of the input shaft into the pilot bearing but was unable to get the transmission to move any further. why i do not know i pulled it back out and lowered it and will be trying to get it in early tomorrow morning as i am leaving for class.

What is the best way to get the trans at an angle because my trans jack is flat.
