Blow-By

I've got a 97 7.3 automatic with around 225k on it. I noticed that it's started to have a some what excessive amount of blow by coming from the crank crase vent. I was wondering if anyone has addressed this problem before or if anyone may know a common cause of this: broken piston rings, warn piston rod bearings, stuck valves, etc. Any info helps. Also if anyone knows of a good place to get a engine rebuild kit for a 97 7.3 that would be great.

Re: Blow-By

Start the engine and let it get up to operating temperature. Take the oil fill cap off and place the cap upside down and see if the blow by actually blows the cap off of the filler hole . If it does then you’ve some internal wear that needs attention . If the cap sorta vibrates off due to normal engine vibration call it good and drive that thing !
