97 F350 tensioner puzzle

OK I finally figured out my vacuum pump is going to give up soon. So here I am with new pump and a new problem. According to Napa, Car Quest and Rock auto the tensioner I have in my 97 F350 Powersroke is the wrong one. Even the routing diagram on the radiator support shows the dual pulley tensioner set up BUT all parts look-ups do not. I have read here about the conversion and I'm OK with that I just need to know if anyone here has figured out what belt to use on a 97 F350 no AC. The last guy that did this struggled so with a short belt he broke the aluminum casting were the 1/2" drive release goes. The belt is so tight I may have to cut it. Any one that can help with a correct number (or even size) will be appreciated.

Should be numbers on the belt.
post them, we can look what you have and figure what you need. The belt numbers are also the length

Re: 97 F350 tensioner puzzle

I guess you don't want to answer my question, not sure why, but I will explain it to you. Up though 97 the 7.3 used a single tensioner which had the alternator on the passenger side and the start of the super dutys used a dual tensioner with the alternator on the drivers side. You can put the dual tensioner on the early 7.3's and use a super duty belt, be careful f350 used one and a 350 used one almost an inch longer. But if you could have told me which side it was on it is easier to figure out what you have and what was done!

Re: 97 F350 tensioner puzzle

Sorry heavydoc still not used to this forum I did answer you it's on the right or passengers side. I just typed "right". My computer is very slow running this site for some reason. Had to wait like 10 minutes to type the word 'right'. Seems to be working OK now but was very slow before. So as I understand you I should be able to use a belt for a 98 Super Duty, correct?

Re: 97 F350 tensioner puzzle

I apologize I thought you were saying right to dusty, you should be able to use any superduty belt 99-03, I believe 98.5 model years were special orders only. I put the dual tensioner on my 96 and am using the long belt for an 02
