Fuel Pump - to replace or not replace?

I have my fuel bowl off (as described in another thread). Should I replace my fuel pump while I have access to it? Money is rather tight right now (which makes me lean towards not fixing it if it ain't broke), but this thing does have 255,000 miles on it. How often do factory fuel pumps fail?

Thanks,
Michael Pliska

Re: Fuel Pump - to replace or not replace?

Some people put a new one on it, and a couple of months later it is out again. It would obviously be easier to change it now instead of later. But if it aint broke then there aint no reason to change it!! Good luck.

I have the stock fuel pump from my truck as well. 110,000 miles and I would bet that it's the stocker. It's priced much similar to the fuel bowl

IMO, if its 255K on the original, you're rollin the dice--I'd change it. It's a lot easier to do it now and you can give the valley a thorough cleansing.... Baxter keeps the OE Carters in stock. Does ISSPRO have an account at Baxter? If not, I could save you a few bucks as we get dealer pricing. PM me if you want to set up a buy.

I think Carter is the only manufacturer of the OBS fuel pump so it really doesn't matter where you buy it. The cheapest place is the best place.
