What yr 7.3 is best ???

Here's my deal.im looking to basically take a 1993-97F-350 crewcab dually to use as a work truck delivering trailers around the country. According to all your expertise on here how should I go about setting it up ??? Also 2 or 4 wheel drive ???

94.5 to 97. 93 would be an idi which is completely different other than displacement from the later two generations of 7.3. The idi also wasn't turboed. If you're strictly highway I'd say 2wd will net you better fuel mileage ad eliminates some maintenance parts. Go offroad at all with a dually and 4x4 will be heavily appreciated.

IDI had factory installed turbo for two years, 93, and 94.

Yeah yeah, obs looks better blah blah blah.
I would skip the obs and go straight to a SD. More creature comforts. More power up front, already intercooled, etc, etc, etc.

I was under the idea that turbos were a dealer installed option for 93 to 94.

nope. 93-94 was factory installed if the air hat said Ford, and the turbo diesel tag was on the front fender. . if it said ATS on the air hat and just had diesel, it was aftermarket.

I am a tried and true OBS man but if I were to purchase another one with the 7.3 in it I would go with the 2000-2003 Super Duty. As was mentioned better creature comforts, more power, 6 speed transmission for the manual, and more power.

One would argue that 99.5 until 10/00 had the bigger turbo and injectors, after that was the introduction of the PM connecting rods.

Re: What yr 7.3 is best ???

You want 99.5-03. Much more power and a better ride. Get a new turbo/rebuild with ww2, deleted pedestal , 160/30 + 65hp hydra tune, replace all orings in fuel bowl and hpop, hpop lines, replace the rear fuel line in the back that likes to rub and leak, new set of intercooler boots. Freshen up or rebuild the transmission..

Thatís what I would do if I was going across the country. Depending on how many miles - I would do more.
