HPOP going bad?

Here are the syptoms on my 97 OBS 7.3 with 213,xxx. Oil residue in the valley toward the front and dry toward the back, slight drip coming down the front of the engine, driving it today felt like it was running on half power, sluggish of the line, rough idle, etc... My thoughts are the HPOP is on its way out and itís only running on 4 cylinders but Iím no expert... Any insight would be much appreciated!

Re: HPOP going bad?

Is the CEL illuminated? Oil level good? Is it oil residue or a puddle? The HPOPs are fairly stout. You can try disconnecting each valvecover harness connection while its running and see what the change is. No change, the two cylinders associated with that connection have a problem. If it changes they should be OK electrically. At any rate, inspect the valvecover gasket pins and harness connector pins for evidence of melting or burning. Cheers!

Re: HPOP going bad?

If you are running on 4 cylinders, then follow Patrick's advise...harness, pins that is usually the issue. You may have some oil leaks...clean them up and then check again to ID the leak.
