New truck!

Okay so I am new here... I bought a 97 7.3 5 speed obs a few months ago and was wondering what do y'all suggest I do to it. Im not going to pull all the time with it but want somthing reliable with a decent amount of power. The truck to my understanding is stock and has 170,000 miles on it. It does have a 3 inch down pipe and 4 inch strait exhaust.

As you can see there is some rust on the bed but I picked up some replacement weld in pannels for 25 bucks!

So far I am thinking:
air intake mod
Gauges
Intercooler
TS chip

Is there anything you think I should do or stay away from?

I am looking at a 6.0 intercooler and e99 spyder set up but I am not sure that is the best way to go.

Re: New truck!

Here's a couple threads about Obs intercoolers.

Re: New truck!

You'll be better off with something like a Hydra chip. TS isnt around much anymore. Superduty E-fuel is something good to look into as well. Nice truck!

Shoulda bought a Cummins.

Re: New truck!

Welcome to the nation. The truck looks good.

I think you have a great list of mods. If you do the mods you mentioned you will have a good reliable towing machine. Only thing I might add is a set of stage 1 injectors and probably e fuel but those things can be done later.

6.0 or 7.3 intercooler will both work. Try and get a set of 7.3 intercooler pipes and the obvious e99 spyder. Then you will just need some boots and clamps. I like riff raff for those.

Old Blue, 97' F350, CCLB, 7.3, Auto
Air: SD IC, 3" Plenums
Fuel: E- Fuel, 160/30 Injectors
Turbo: Irate T4, S366
Oil: T500, Melling LPOP
PCM: TW TS, IDM Mod

Good to know. Just for clarification sake all I will need is the e99 Spyder to make it work correct? I've heard different things from different people. Everything from changing out a turbo pedestal to swaping the turbo. Im thinking its just a new spyder, 7.3 intercooler pipes and a 6.0 or 7.3 intercooler. And of course boots and clamps.

I will have to look into the Hydra chips. Any one in particular that you recomend or have had experience with?

And any idea what an e-fuel set up runs? That may have to wait for bonus/tax return time lol.

Re: New truck!

I wouldn't worry about e fuel yet. For now concentrate on the intercooler and gauges.

And yes all you need is the e99 spyder. It will hook to your stock turbo. No need to change the pedestal or anything else.

For the chip I like the TS. The hydra is a good option. DP tuner is also worth looking at.

I have Tony Wildman tunes but there are many good custom tuners. That's just personal preference.

Re: New truck!

Yeah @410customs just did his 97 and wrote it up pretty good check out his build.

I would not worry with efuel until either the stock system is failing or ur doing bigger injectors.

I am a fan of Dp's products they will work with u to set u up right for what u are wanting to do.

Re: New truck!

Good to know. Thanks for the input. I want a chip that I change times on while driving... I saw the ts did that so I was leaning that way. I will look up the others y'all mentioned.

Speaking of gauges any recommendation on what gauges I should invest in. Im thinking a piller with boost, egt, and what else???
