White smoke in morning.

1996 F350 5 speed

After truck has sat over night or Sat for a good while, it takes longer than normal to start truck. Once truck starts I am getting white smoke out of exhaust. Truck seems to not have much power for the first 5 or so miles of driving. Once truck warms up it drives just fine. And will start up just fine through out the day. Had buddy smell the smoke this morning when started cold. Said there was a hint of fuel smell. Just wondering what yall think it may be.

Re: White smoke in morning.

I think its cold combustion chambers.
Does it smoke if you plug it in first?
What oil are you running?
Miles?

It may very well be worn poppet valves in your injectors. If it clears up when warm then it points to injectors. The 7.3 uses its crankcase oil as hydraulic fluid to make the 3000psi needed to inject the fuel. When the oil is cold the injectors have a harder time = unburnt fuel in the morning until the oil thins out and combustion chambers get up to operating temps

Re: White smoke in morning.

Or it could just be glow plugs are weak. I'd start there.
