1997 7.3 Does not seem to be making boost

My 7.3 does not seem to be making boost, however....

When I remove the intake I can see the turbo wheel spinning, It is also solid and has no play to it so that seems fine (looks like it may have been rebuilt)

When I remove the Y pipe going into the motor it does seem like it is pushing air into where the intake would be.

There is no damage to the Y pipe or red hoses but when I hook up a boost gauge I get nothing. I had the boost gauge hooked up while driving around and it did no budge.

In the images you can see the test gauge is hooked up to where a boost gauge would go, but when I was actually testing for boost while driving it around I removed the hose with the T and directly connected the gauge to the motor.

Do you have the large o ring from the compressor to the y pipe? Mine didn't have one when I bought the truck. Made a big difference.

welcome to PSN. when you say it is not making boost, and you testing driving, or sitting and revving the engine?
you will see little to no boost unless the engine is under load.
hook up the gauge, and go for a ride. full throttle up a hill with a laod you should see around 15 lbs boost.
driving around town you should see 4-5 lbs boost.

Could be a LOT of things making you not build boost. Another good way to check it is to create a boost leak detector, do some searching on the forum about it and it will help you find any leaks in the intake side. I guarantee you will find something. Hell I bet 65% of of people out there have some form of boost leak, whether big or small, and dont know it.

I'm scared to try a boost leak test, kinda like going to the doctor knowing they will find something wrong with you

There're whole other reasons why the doctor will always "find" something wrong with you...... (OT, I know.....)

I had the same issue last summer and didn't realize it until I was towing my 10k lb trailer and having problems with the passes. Hooked it up to a scanner and the MAP sensor was out, along with the air sensor. Turbo was spooling up but not getting the right air temperatures or elevation reading to engage. Replaced both sensors and it's up and running.

Run a scanner on it and you'll find out quickly if it's either of those sensors.
