anti-drain back valve

how are these plugs installed?? I can't get the threads to grab even when i press the spring in. what is the order? plug- spring- ball- retainer thing?

I had the same problem. It was the angle. I had to take a screw driver and push it towards the front of the motor while tightening it. Drove me nuts, thinking i stripped it out.
