JK8-1227 Super Duty Tensioner Mod

I just received my parts in the mail for the Super Duty Tensioner Mod...I'm suspicious about the belt. The ribs have sparkles everywhere. Kind of smells like soap too. Maybe, I'm being paranoid on the smell though and that's how EPDM rubber smells. Belt has absolutely no signs of use that I can tell. I have replaced a few belts in my time using Dayco or Gates. Never seen sparkles on those. First Motorcraft belt I have ever bought. Please tell me this is normal and I didn't get ripped off.

Re: JK8-1227 Super Duty Tensioner Mod

well that is a first
I googled Motorcraft belt and "sparkles, or glitter" and found a nice selection of glitter belts for you to wear. Nothing about anyone ever having any serpentine belts with sparkles

Are you thinking the belt is a fake Motorcraft part? I would run it and see what happens
I too have installed many many belts and none of them have had a glitter (at least not that caught my eye)
Where did you get your parts?
PICS!!!
I want to see this fashionable serpentine belt

Ha! I don't think it's counterfeit. Says Motorcraft and Made in the USA. Looks real. Bought it from an authorized Ford parts dealer on EBay. I just wonder if someone soaped it up to get rid of a squeak/squeal and then returned it. I sure can't tell though it looks brand new. I will try to get pics tonight.

I tried taking pics in all different lighting. Can't get the sparkles to show up. Belt looks completely brand new. Just gonna run it. I will add Super Sparkle Belt to my signature. Then I will cast a vote for this being a dumb thread!

Re: JK8-1227 Super Duty Tensioner Mod

there are no dumb threads
You can try washing the belt? Whenever I install a new belt on one of our snowmobiles or rzr the factory belts get washed in hot soapy water before install. This process removes any built up oils or residue that leaches from the belt after manufacturing before install. So it may not be a bad idea to wash your belt, perhaps it was just packaged along side some glitter Holiday decorations or something before showing up at your place!! I would be proud to run sparkles the belt in my engine bay
