Zf5 Transmission

Alright so I have a 1997 F350 7.3l OBS SCLB having lots of transmission noise. Clutch is pretty new. So I think I have ruled it out to bearings inside the transmission. My question what is a good quality rebuild kit that wont cost over $600

Re: Zf5 Transmission

When do you have the noise?
If its just in neutral or creeping around the parking lot. You have gear roll over. You can try syncro mesh or redline atf.

Re: Zf5 Transmission

Should I be running a synchromesh atf in my zf5????
Synchromesh ATF is designed for gearboxes with high pressure gears and it "climbs" up gears very well.
Currently mine is filled with Mercon V

Re: Zf5 Transmission

You dont need to run sycromesh. It just helps with gear roll over noise.

Re: Zf5 Transmission

To the OP, when you replaced the clutch, did you also switch from a dual-mass to a single-mass flywheel? Are you running SYNTHETIC ATF?

Re: Zf5 Transmission

The clutch was replaced right before I bought it. And I changed the fluid once i got it to synthetic atf. Sitting in neutral it does it in gear setting still it does it and in gear and driving it does it the only time it quietness up is when you give her a little fuel or even hard acceleration it goes away until you let off then the bearings are noisy as hell
