Died and no oil pressure

Working on a 96 3/4 ton 4x4 . It was running fine then just died .Turns over good and wouldn't even try to start . Found the HPOP res. empty so filled and truck started for a bit and died , res. empty again . Tapped in a oil pressure guage at the filter (guage in dash stuck) No pressure , spun filter off and cranked over and no oil flow . Pulled oil pump off crank and it seems fine . Could the oil pick-up be cracked or what could cause this ? Truck has 220,000 on it . The oil level is full .

Re: Died and no oil pressure

There have been a few reports of the pickup tube being cracked. I think one even came completely off.

Go ARMY!

Theres a test for a cracked pickup tube

The pick-up tube can be checked by adding two quarts of oil to the crankcase and raising the rear of the vehicle approximately ten inches. If the ICP readings at 3300 RPM drop, then the pick-up tube is cracked or leaking.
If at the end of the three minute high RPM test the ICP readings are above 1400 for Federal or 1250 for California and Econoline or 1500 on 99.5, the anti-foaming agents are depleted from the oil or the wrong oil is being used.
