My '96 Work truck...

just rolled 370,000 miles....still averages 16.4 mpg going back and forth. I normally go from 8000 to 10,000 miles on a Rotella Dino change and just recently change my fuel filter with 20,000 miles on the WIX filter....it was past time to change it but wanted to see if it would do it. This truck occasional will get WMO, WATF or peanut oil during the holidays for fuel on long trips usually deer hunting...840 miles roundtrip.

Had the windows re-tinted last month. Gonna get a new windshield next week....Hoping I can go to 400k on the injectors...I have never had them out.

I have had the truck since November 2009 with 184,000 on the clock. I paid $3000 for it. I keep Michelin LTX 235 85 16 tires on it. Never been waxed. Wash it maybe twice a year.

This vehicle runs circles around my IDI and beats the hell out of my Chevy gas 3/4 ton work vehicle from years gone.

Thanks for this site.

Re: My '96 Work truck...

Drove this truck to Colorado for the holidays...put in an aux 75 gal fuel tank and 5) 5 gallon containers of blended diesel along with the wife, one son and the shi tzu dog along with hunting rifles and assorted gear. Put 2 new rear tires on it for the snow and icy roads we may encounter and off we went.

we left at 01:00 Christmas eve and got in 16 hours and 24 minutes later in Denver. 1052 miles. It was nice not having to stop at a fuel station. I fueled while we were stopped at the rest stops to p.

I did buy a rear tankful of local diesel for the trip up into the Rockies for the extra pour point depressant in the fuel.

We enjoyed the sub zero temps at night and the preteens during the day. My Texas truck likes to be warm but twice in the mountains I was unable to plug in. What a bear to start. It would bark. After about 20 barks I finally got it to stay running....while warming up found two more areas of oil leaks from the front of the engine. I guess with it plugged in the o rings don't shrink as much.

I forgot to add some methanol to my washer fluid so it was frozen solid until we were back in Texas.

My Interceptor gauge was reading -3.8 lbs of boost with the engine off in the mountains....elevation was around 10,000 feet.

Was able to get back to TX with my blended fuel and still have about 10 gallons left, total trip miles was 2,421 miles with 132 gallons of blended fuel loaded and 15 gallons of local fuel purchased and 10 gallons remaining I guess we are at about 137 gallons burned with an average of 17.67 mpg.

odometer now reads 378,xxx miles. Very good indeed.

I wonder if your BARO sensor is not responding to the elevation properly. I wish the Interceptor had a selection to directly read BARO. Even my AE (old version; I really should upgrade) doesn't show BARO directly.

How much glow plug run time did you give it? We often have to start ours without plugging it in (rustic cabin) at aprx. 0F. We just give it an extra 10- or 20-count, turn the key, it cranks a little longer and lights right up, and smokes like we're fogging for skeeters.

Re: My '96 Work truck...

Yup, I let the GP's stay on 30 seconds after the WTS light went out. I was glad it started, with no ether to give it a helping hand I was starting to wonder about the batteries holding up. It didn't smoke that much when it did start.

On the drive up I burned about 12 gallons of peanut oil and my Aux tank had 10 gallons of used motor oil in it along with the diesel, and using our Kroger card I got 35 gallons of fuel for a buck a gallon. I purchased diesel before leaving here in Houston for 1.99 a gal.

I saw off road diesel for 1.35 gal! it was tempting.

Berkey claims that its water filters will filter out food dye from the water put through them (it's actually a way of testing the filter). We need to get them to perfect a version of their filter for diesel fuel....
