AC Problem

I looked around and couldnt find much. My AC blows cold and then blows warm at idle or driving it doesnt matter. I went to a shop today and he put gauges on it and (I dont know much about AC's) I think the high side was like 375 or something and he said that was way to much so he let some out and now it only blows warm. He said he can get to it monday.

Im just trying to figure out what could be the problem and learn a lil about my AC system. I think my orfice tube might be clogged but it hasnt been on there that long.

Thanks, Cody

Re: AC Problem

375 is high but you might want to check the clutch too.

Check the gap on the clutch. If it looks like you can get more than a sheet of paper in there when the a/c is off then the clutch needs adjusting or replacing.

Clogged orifice usually doesnt come and go.

I caught mine by seeing the compressor wasnt turning over when it was in one of its hot air blowing moods.

It will drive you nuts trying to find the problem if its the clutch.

All I had to do on mine was remove the shim from the clutch by removing the 6mm(I think) bolt from the front of the compressor and pulled the face of the clutch off by hand at the point and removed a shim from it and put it back together. Works great now. Was randomly stopping cooling but blew ice cubes when it did work.

Re: AC Problem

That is exactly what mine is doin when its cold its cold but then will get warm. But now that he let some out it only blows warm/cool.

What does pulling the shim out do? It is a napa compresor and has that lifetime warrenty thing I think. I may just take it in a switch them out. I have noticed a residue of oily grime showing up on my hot side ic pipe and top radiator hose like the compresor is throwing oil out when spinning.

Thanks

Re: AC Problem

You need to go by the gap if thats whats causing it. How big of a gap is there after taking one shim out?

Mine has no shims in it now.
