another crank but no start

i was drving down the freeway in my buddies 97 and all of a sudden it just shut off, it will crank over but wont start, ive changed the fallowing items and still nothing. cps,pcm,icp, ipr, and i was told to unplug the idm and see if it started with it unplugged, tried it and still nothing. what else could be wrong?

Does the tach move when cranking? Any kind of smoke whiel trying to start?

Definately WON'T start with the idm unplugged, that's what tells your injectors to open!! Who told you that???

I hope you haven't BOUGHT all those items you said you changed, that's a tone of money just to throw parts at a problem.

Did you check fuse #22? Do you have fuel pressure? Is there oil in the engine?

all the parts came off of a parts truck that ran but threw a rod so i know that they are working. it will start and run off of eather but thats it. i dont remeber who but it was on here when MY computer went out someone said to unplug the idm . and yes their is oil in the motor, just changed it with amsoil about a week ago.

any ideas?

if it fires with ether, sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Whats your fuel pressure? Put a dial-type tire pressure gage on the Schrader valve on the FPR while somebody cranks.

Is there fuel in the fuel canister by the way?

And check Fuse 22

You may have confused IDM with people saying to unplug the ICP sensor for a default test of the icp sensor. Fuse 22 handles the pcm and the fuel bowl heater. The heater is bad about shorting out and killing the pcm by frying the fuse. DO NOT use ether with glow plugs....motor go BOOM!

oops.. we were doin that the other day..


Anyway Just unscrew the Fuel bowl cap a little and have someone crank it and ull no if its got fuel psi. Does it have dual fuel tanks?
