Question on puffs of black smoke

When I take off and if I step into it I am seeing small puffs of black smoke coming from the tailpipe...not alot or thick, just small puffs of it. If I rev it up I wil also get the black smoke. If I just drive "normal" I don't get the smoke just when I rev it up or step into it. It will do it through all five gears.

The truck is a 95 powerstroke with 5 speed tranny...

I just noticed it doing this and I dont think it was doing it before now. I would have noticed I think...truck runs good as far as I can tell.

What could be wrong if anything? I have a TS chip and it does it in all settings even stock...I have stock injectors also. Gas mileage seems to be bad lately so I dont know if that has anything to do with it???

Thanks for your help...

Re: Question on puffs of black smoke

well...It is a diesel, if your not getting a lot of smoke or smoke all the time its probably not air filter. How many miles you have on the truck?

Re: Question on puffs of black smoke

Thats pretty normal for a diesel to smoke. Thats not many miles on the truck so i wouldnt worry about sticks just yet. What air filter you put on there?

Re: Question on puffs of black smoke

just one from oreily, nothing special. i have read that if you have a turbo leak it will blow black smoke, I had a new turbo with non ebvp vale pedestal installed about three months ago...maybe a turbo leak? i would think it would be more smoke but just wondering what you think? not alot of smoke at all, just small puffs when stepping into it, sometimes you can hardly notice it but I do!!!

Re: Question on puffs of black smoke

mmk, ya if you have a boost leak it may smoke a little. I would switch you filter to a good tymar filter from napa. They are $35. best filter for the money all you need is a piece of 4" exhaust pipe around 5" long how much boost are you getting now compared to previously?
