ABS light flashing and shifter stuck in Park

On the way to work this morning I stopped for a coffee and left the truck running. When I cam back I went to shift into drive and the shifter wouldn't move. I looked down and the ABS light was flashing. I shut it off, then started it to find the same. Luckly I had my blackberry so I googled (% Ford ABS light and found a forum about the same thing. The guy tried lots of stuff then someone told him to check his fuses and it was a fuse.

I did the same and it worked I changed the fuse, can't remember what one it was for off hand(top middle horizontal facing one)! The ABS flashed all the way to work, but on the way home it was gone.

Anyone ever hear of this? Know what causes it? Is there anything I should check or change to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks,

Ian

Check the VSS sencer on top of the rear end. They get covered with fine shaves from the gears.

Re: ABS light flashing and shifter stuck in Park

My '95 had a short in the trailer wiring and was causing the fuse to blow, fixed that and no more problems.

Hmm, I wasn't hauling a trailer at the time but I have heard that a few other places now. I will have to look into it.

Thanks for the tips!

Mine did it last week. Post is further down on the page. Ended up being a short. THe brake on-off switch on the pedal. THe wires wrap around a piece of metal before going into the wire harness and melted the fuse. Not just blown--melted the plastic. I was all over the dash looking for it-theres alot of wire in there:)
