How can you have a California engine or the federal version?

Re: Engine Id

Come on guys.
Is there an easy way to tell, besides pulling the valve covers?
Also my compressor housing says 1.10 A/R, I thought stock was 1.15 A/R?
I am fairly sure that the housing is orignal equipment, since i have owned the truck almost all of its life.
Please help.....

Re: Engine Id

First easy way is to look at the fuel pump. If it looks like this:

Then it's most likely a Federal (49 state) truck.

The cali trucks have a dampener that (I've been told) looks like the Starship Enterprise dome.

The other way is to look at the emissions sticker on the valve cover. It should say something that will clue you in.

Re: Engine Id

Thanks guys
Its pump looks like the one in the picture, I couldn't find much info on the sticker.
Did Ford use a diffrent A/R housing than the 1.15 on some models?
I guess someone could have changed it before i bought it, but it was bone stock and only 17k miles, wasan't broken in yet....

Re: Engine Id

Sorry, I was thinking of the turbine (exhaust) housing. Yes, the stock OBS was 1.10 compressor housing A/R ratio.
