engine swap

My friend has a 97' F-350 crew cab. Can you put a PS in an OBS truck? If not does anyone know were he can find a motor for a decent price?

Re: engine swap

I don't understand...you mean, he has a gas motor and wants to install the PS diesel? Or does he already have a diesel, in which case it already would be a PS. The Powerstrokes first appeared in OBS trucks in mid-94.

So, is it cost-effective to put a PS in a gasser? Nope, too many changes including new transmission.

Not so fast there nashvillebill. For the most part you are correct BUT, I did exactly what this gentleman is talking about for about 500 bucks.

You will need to find a complete donor truck cheap. Or in my case have the donor truck and buy a gasser cheap.

You had better be prepared to work your ass off though.

you will need to pull the dash and change the wiring harness, pull the radiator support, Tranny, wiring harness to the rear of the truck, install extra battery box ,washer fluid and radiator overflow, cut off extra bracket on motor mount support, install fuel selector switch and change fuel lines around, pull fuel tanks, change out gauge cluster, exhaust. And thats just the stuff i can remember off the top of my head. If i ever had the chance to do it agian I think i'd rather develop a case of the swine flu. But good luck to ya if you decide to do it.

Re: engine swap

Okay, but if you had a gasser with a blown motor, then finding the donor PS cheap might be a tad more difficult :)

Re: engine swap

Ok sorry for the confusion. He has a stroker in it already. I guess I should have explained myself better. This is my fault fellas. My question I guess is can you put the newer style 7.3 in the older trucks?

Re: engine swap

He tried to go across a river but his 38's made him float. So there for his turbo sucked up a lot of water. They couldnt get the truck out of the river for about 2 days until the water level went down.

Re: engine swap

Ouch!

It may still be possible to rebuild his existing motor, or he could stick any later 7.3 in. Cost-effectiveness depends on who is doing the work, in my opinion.

Re: engine swap

I have one ready to drop in. He would need tuning for split shots and to mount the intercooler (which I have also).

PM if interested I am in OH.

Or he could sell me that truck and I can rebuild it for me.
