Shifting problem

I have a 96 ford f-150, when I start the truck and put it in 1st it kicks into neutral sometimes. It doesnt seem to be a big issue right now but I want to know what I can do to fix this problem if anyone has suggestions.

Re: Shifting problem

Have you done a fluid or filter change lately? My old 94 F150 with a E4OD would slip out of gear & rev in netural whenever it felt like it. Then it would pop back into gear like you got rear-ended. We did a fluid & filter change & added about 2+ quarts of Lucas trans fix & she shifted like a cadi till I sold it. I beat on that truck hard & it always shifted good!

Can you describe in more detail if it jumps out of D or M1 or it will sometimes slip in D in 1st gear. I'm wondering if you have a linkage problem or a slip condition. What are you doing to make it pull again?

Re: Shifting problem

For real, in some places you don't leave the windows down in a parked car. More than one have had snakes come out from under the seat! For awhile I had an axe and a 4' pipe by the storage building door. Those rascals would slip in under the door. They like concrete floors in the dog days of summer.
