IDI to powerstroke conversion?

i have a 94 7.3 IDI and i want to convert it to the powerstroke engine and i just had a couple quick questions about it. first off i know the transmission will mount up (so ive been told) but are the motor mounts the same? am i gonna find myself in a wiring nightmare or does it all pretty much just plug and play? am i gonna have to do any fabrication? and last i found a 95 ambulance with roughly 290K and it has new heads because i guess one cracked and the guy rebuilt in all.. the ambulance has front end damage but he says it still starts right up he just doesnt want to fix it.. he is asking 1300 for the whole thing.. is it worth getting into or should i just go a different route? any input would be great

Re: IDI to powerstroke conversion?

You are going to need everything from a Powerstroke truck from the dash to the radiator. All wiring, fuses, sensors, PCM, and IDM along with the pedal assembly.

Has it been done? Yes, it has but with a lot of work.

Re: IDI to powerstroke conversion?

Be better off just selling your idi powered truck and buy a psd powered truck.

Re: IDI to powerstroke conversion?

It's not that complicated I'm doin this swap right now its just time consuming and don't listen to people who say just sell it and buy one that would be great if I was loaded but hey but yes to do it you will need everything the wiring won't be bad if you can get an entire harness and my last bit I would not attempt this swap if I didn't have both trucks sitting next to each other

I'm going from gas to diesel and if its anything like my swap everything pretty much goes right into place make sure to take pictures of stuff coming off the powerstroke so you know how everything is supposed to go.

I swapped mine from big block to psd its not bad as long as you have both trucks its a lot easer to find a good clean gas truck the people that have the clean psd's want as much as a new one lol
