cold weather problems

ok just a quick question i am running 15 40 oil every time i crank up i get a 1280 injector control pressure code after a couple minutes of white smoke and high idle it goes away and runs fine with less smoke and a lower idle is this because of the thick oil? is it normal?

I use 5W40 synthetic year round. 15W40 is too heavy for colder weather.

SCT, no studs...yet, Dual OEM intake air filter housings, Banks intercooler & intake elbow, Banks exhaust syatem, Windrunner ported intake manifold, Bullet Proof Diesel remote oil cooler & thermostat, AirDog2 (plus a couple spares), Power steering filter (Amsoil dual-bypass), MagTec deep ATF pan, Electric oil pre-lub pump, Dakota Digital gauges.

Re: cold weather problems

I have used 15w40 since I bought my truck brand new in 96. I have started it in temperatures from a -40 to 100 degrees and I have never had a problem. When it is cold it rattles and shakes but it starts with no problems.

This winter you should try a 5W40 I bet your real cold weather starts and idle would be a heck of a lot smoother.

Re: cold weather problems

A little HPO system reading: HPOP Manual - PowerStrokeNation : Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum

Its not an oil weight issue, the 15-40 is fine--need to do some troubleshooting. The 1280 is a low ICP code normally driven by a pissed ICP sensor or connector. Is there oil in the sensor plug? Could be that the sensor can no longer give good pressure feedback to the IPR and the pressure circuit is not setting itself properly with cold oil.

If you actually have low (or below commanded) ICP you'll get a 1211.

Re: cold weather problems

the reason i think it prolly isnt the sensors is they've been replaced within the last 6 months i only get this code right after start up then within 30 seconds to a minute it goes away. some more history... it only started doing this after i got to wyoming
