How do I get the best MPG's

I recently purchased a 96' CCSB with 195,000 miles with E40D trans, 285 yokahama geolander a/t tires, and 3.55 gears. Its all stock the only thing i have done to it so far is replace the fuel pump (leaking from weeping hole) and the alternator (battery light on). I wanted to know what the best things to do to get the most mpg's out of my truck. I primarily drive it back and forth to work round trip 42 miles 2 lane highway about 60 mph. Other than than I will use it for towing my car trailer. Any help would be great. Thanks Jesse

Skinny non-AT tread tires. Block or redirect airflow under and through the body. Lower to the ground. Drive even slower. No open beds. If you have mirrors that stick out from the body, replace them with something closer to the body.

Drive it like there's an egg under the accelerator pedal that you dont want to break.

It's free and nothing else will have as big an effect on MPG.

In all reality these truck don't get good fuel mileage. It isn't bad but it isn't good. They are build like a tank, a big box style that isn't aerodynamic and they weigh a 3 tons empty. So for the best mileage get some tall skinny tires, empty everything out of the truck except for the passengers, run on only enough fuel to get you to work and back to a filling station, or do as I did. I bought a cheap gas car that got great mileage 40+ and drove it back and forth to work and left the truck in the driveway until I needed a truck.

baby it and keep it in that 60-65mph range. the best i ever got in my powerstroke was 23 mpg and that was in ohio, so primarily flat and staying out of the boost.

well said, it's cool to see how well the truck will get milking it.

if i don't need a truck i'd rather take my saturn that gets 40mpg. all depends on what you need and how much you drive.

Re: How do I get the best MPG's

These trucks really aren't that bad when you compare. Mine's a '95 cab and chassis with a 3 yard dump. With both tanks full, and me sitting in it, it weighs just over 7,900 pounds. General driving it's about 15+ mpg. Working it, about 11. I also have a '95 C&C with a 460. Same size Dump. Empty driving is about 6mpg. Working, about 4mpg. My PSD truck is also my daily driver. Just my 2 cents.
