Glow Plug Readings?

Hey all, Ive been having some starting issues with my 96 PSD. Was told by many of my mechanics and you guys on here to check my glow plugs. I unplugged the plugs on the valve covers and tested the 2 outer most prongs on each because i was told those are the glow Plug ones. I got readings anywhere from 0-14 ohms. I know thats not right. What should each reading be around. Thanks, Jeff

Re: Glow Plug Readings?

You can take a test light and go from the positive terminal on the battery and the glow plug pin. If the light lights up nice and bright you have a good glow plug. If not, then that glow plug is bad!! The only way I have ohm'd the glow plugs out is to take them out and taking the DVM, one end on the threads and the other on the tip that doesn't heat up. They should read 1-5 ohms. If not you have a bad glow plug!

Its't that more or less the test to check the wiring from the IDM to the injectors, not the glow plugs?

Looking for Blue 40-20-40 seat for OBS. PM me if any known

Re: Glow Plug Readings?

From the outer plug pins to ground, the resistance should be 0.1 - 2.0 ohms. Cheers!

Yeah I guess I should have specified that it was so that he could figure out what pins went where.

Re: Glow Plug Readings?

If you are testing the two outer most pins in each connector with one lead and the other lead to a good ground such as the battery negative and are getting readings that high, then yes you either have bad glow plugs or the UVCH harnesses are bad. Next step is to check the connectors in the valve cover gaskets for damage, then move on to pulling the covers and checking the UVCH.
