Unhappy WHAT THE HELL?

I have a F250, 4" exhaust, and evo chip. my problem is the same with or without chip. I pull a trailer about 7000 lbs on the flat no problem. On any kind of upgrade say 5% I drop in speed and power. I slow down to 40-45 mph and tach at 2500 to 2800. I don't have the overdrive engaged either. It has slowly gotten worse.I've looked for exhaust leaks- none, boost is at 14,fuel pressure at 45-48 psi, oil pressure is good. New fuel filter and air filter. I've even taken it to a diesel shop and the Ford dealer and both saaid it's doing what it should. I'm sorry but I think that's BS! It does not perform likr it use to. Obviously I have something going south on me. Has anybody had this issue and what did you do to correct it?

Re: WHAT THE HELL?

Sounds like your fuel pressure is getting weak. It should be 60 or so at idle.

Re: WHAT THE HELL?

That sounds a little high. I don't have the California fuel regulator which gives around 55 psi...But I can tell ya it's gonna be the next purchase. Away, I'm told it,s a little low but within "Spec"...Thanks for the thought and will put it to use this week.

Re: WHAT THE HELL?

No 60 psi is correct at idle. If you have 45-48 psi at idle your pump is getting weak. AS for the Cali fuel pulse dampener, it is not a regulator by any means. The only regulator is bolted to the side of the fuel bowl. I would also seriously look for exhaust leaks pre-turbo. The up pipes will start to leak due to the donut gaskets and you will loose power in just the manner you describe.

Re: WHAT THE HELL?

Thanks for the info, I will look into a new fuel pump and regulator. I've checked for exhaust leaks and can't see any residue or feel any from joints.

Re: WHAT THE HELL?

Go e-fuel...... Skip the mechanical pump and stock fuel bowl.

Re: WHAT THE HELL?

E-fuel would be nice but not in the budget. I talked to another guy who has a 97' and his is starting to have the same issue so at least I'm not alone. Ha.

The California fuel pressure regulator kit uses a different spring and seat assembly than the federal trucks, generally making 60-65 psi instead of the federal 50-55 psi. Or you could use just a BB to shim the federal regulator spring.

Uppipe leaks is a good guess for power loss. Or the op could check fuel pressure under load to see if its dropping off because of demand.
