Front fuel tank leak

After filling up the front tank, I noticed a spot on the driveway. So this morning i unbolted the bed and slid her back ... Dry around filler hose port, vent hose port, sending unit.. It appears leak is on the seam on the front or at the top where it may have rubbed a hole on the cross brace, either way it has to be replaced... Is there much of a difference in the quality in the tanks from LMC verses O'Reilly or autozone, and the 19 gal tank is for the crewcab lb, and the 16 gal tank is for the shortbed correct ???

Re: Front fuel tank leak

Usually here up north the front tanks rot at the seam while the rear tanks rot between the straps and the tank. I'd bet all those company's sell Spectra tanks. I think only the short bed regular cabs had a 16 gallon front tank. The rear 19 gallon tank can be replaced with a 38 gallon tank, I have done it to my trucks, easy to do.

Re: Front fuel tank leak

Yes toolman, I bought the 19 gallon Spectra brand from autozone $129.99... After transfering the fuel to the rear tank, I dropped the tank and found the TWO leaks, one on the front seam and the other at the top under the cross brace. when i pulled the sending unit, the fuel pick up screen was completely covered with sludge. It almost felt like slime.

Re: Front fuel tank leak

1997 F350 duelly with standard cab and 8 ft. bed. Front tank is leaking at the seam and I can't find anyone who can give me a part number or size of this tank, not even the dealers. Anyone got any info on this tank and where to get it. It also has a fuel leak somewhere on the passenger side of the engine. There is no fuel in the valley.

Re: Front fuel tank leak

Front tank is the same on any longbed, doesn't matter if it's SRW or dually. Not sure why you can't find one. Rock Auto is the only site I looked at and they have them. Many places list them as a side mount.
