4wd shift lever all over the place

Worked fine during testdrive. Now that i got it home n all i went to use it in 4wd yesterday to pull a tree i cut down into the woods. I go to put it in 4lo n the shifter is all of a sudden all over the place and wouldnt engage correctly. It went in and i got the job done but it took almost a half hour to get it bak in 2hi. Whatever holds it in a straight line broke or is missing somehow. It moves left n right and up n down. . Whats wrong with it?

Could be a couple things. You will have to lay under the truck and look at it

Re: 4wd shift lever all over the place

Get a new shifter assembly and before installing it disassemble it and drill the outer housing and add grease zerks so you can keep it lubed to prevent this from happening again.

Will a shifter assembly from a 1988 bronco work? My old bronco is sitting there all alone rotting away.

You may have to modify the linkage but it should bolt on
