'96 Powerstroke upgrade help

I have a 1996 Powerstroke and until I can put some real money into it after I get out of the Army, I wanna know if there's any relatively cheap and easy upgrades I can do to it to gain just a little more power/ maybe make it smoke a little. It's got 274K on it and a 6in lift that's turned into a 4in (the retard before me had leaf springs that are basically flat). The exhaust is already straight piped. Any tips?

Fuel Pressure Regulator, Injector Drive Module. 6637 (napa part#) is a huge air filter to replace the stock air box. It's a do it yourself thing. Down pipe is on the exhaust side of the turbo it's that almost flat thing coming off the turbo. Use the search feature you can find all this stuff that way. Oh and FYI looking for more smoke around here is prolly gonna get you a little harassment. It's just wasted fuel, it's a PS not a cummins. Welcome and good luck!

Re: '96 Powerstroke upgrade help

FPR mod is using a BB to shim the fuel pressure regulator spring to increase average fuel pressure. It raises fuel pressure from about 50-55 psi to about 65 psi.

IDM mod is changing one resistor to raise the injector drive voltage from about 100 volts to about 140 volts for a slightly faster injector opening event. about 5 cents for the resistor, about $100 if you have someone else change the resistor.

Use a NAPA 6637 filter element, a 4" 45* exhaust pipe elbow and two 4" clamps for increased air flow and better filtration when changed out for the stock stuff.

Changing out the stock flattened downpipe for a 3" diameter downpipe with no other exhaust mods will still give you a performance increase and reduced EGTs.

F250 or 350?
250 springs pretty much run flat or even a negative arch if they are old.
It's not that retread's fault that ford put a ttb axle in the f250.

Thanks for the breakdown!!
Any negative's from upping the IDM drive voltage? Does it cause anything to burn out faster? What is the end result of opening the injector faster?

Re: '96 Powerstroke upgrade help

Lots of mods available performance and suspension...

Always std basics first:
Tymar
Guages
turbo back exhaust

Then:
TS chip with custom tunes..TW
Boost fooler
SD IDM, $5 resistor mod or Beans exchange IDM

Then its sky the limit...mods dependent on HP needed and budget.

suspension...RS kits and SD springs with stock D60 to '04 axles or '05 up axles and 4 link kits.

If I can help let me know.

Cary

We only carry the BEST parts and never compromise just to get a sale.

Dealer for: Full Force, Tymar, BTS, Icon, Pure Performance, TW tunes, just to name a few.
