Fuel gauge in my 97 pissin me off!!!!

When my front tank is full fuel gauge reads accurately, but after it gets down to about 3/4 of a tank the gauge goes nuts and goes back and forth from E all the way past F like the float is coming out of the top of the tank. Anybody got ideas what my problem is?????

its the sending unit. drop the tank, pull the sender, take the sender apart and sand the rust off and put it back together. It will work like new and didnt cost anything.
