skipping under load after running out of diesel

Ok so ive had the truck for litterally 48hrs and ran rear tank out of fuel. as I was coasting to a stop switched it to the front, continually trying to restart. She finally came back to life but quite rough. At the same moment throwing the belt from a worn tensioner. I drove my 2 miles back home on what sounded like 4 or 6 cylinders. Replaced the tensioner and belt added 10 gallons to the front tank ( less than a quarter in it) and 2 to the rear. Only stopping at $50 just cause im out of money for fuel at the moment.
I have since driven the truck about 10 miles and she idles smooth but acts like it has no power and rough as I give her throttle. I have searched online for about 3hrs and I give up.
Any suggestions are welcome.
im new to the whole disel truck scene but I do have a Mechanical background.
She is a 96 crew cab duallie 142k all oem
I dont know how to do the "contribution test" i see people talking about
I was told there is just air in the line "drive it it will go away"
Truck was running great before I freakin let the fuel get too low!

Any help is great thanks in advance.

Did you check the fuel filter bowl and make sure it's full? Probably just air. Drive it a while.

Re: skipping under load after running out of diesel

Ok its idling with a skip and i have to push the throttle to make her start now. Going to hit the interstate in a few just hope she will pull her fat ass down the road.
I did leave one thing out on my original post. When I was sitting in the middle of the road i panicked and when it didnt start........I sprayed a few short bursts of either at the mouth pf the air snorkel on the grille. Like i said....i panicked.
