He's putting a 6 speed into OBS..... What else do you need to know? you need the plate that goes in between the engine and the tranny because it is different than the five speed.

2000 F-250, RCLB, Auto!!

Re: Wantin to switch to a 6speed

I think the OP's question is - starting from a ZF5 (rather than an auto), what needs to be changed? Implies several sub-questions:
* Can you use the existing shifter?
* Can you use the existing clutch? (I'd say, who cares? When you've got it apart, install a fresh clutch kit.)
* Can you use the existing flywheel? - Another possible who-cares. If it's on the original dual-mass flywheel, this is the time to swap in a single-mass.
* Can you use the existing pedal and/or hydraulics? (Is a ZF6 internal-slave?)
* What about the PCM? - This one's easy; unlike an auto-manual swap, you can use the existing PCM and don't need to burn anything. The PCM doesn't interface with the manual tranny at all.
There's surely more (driveshaft, t-case if 4x4, etc.).... So it's not quite the same as an auto-to-manual swap.

Re: Wantin to switch to a 6speed

I know it was posted on here before but there isnt much difference between the zf5 and zf6, the gear ratios were so close to being the same. Can remember of the top of my head where it was posted.

Re: Wantin to switch to a 6speed

All the ZF-6's I ever drove were geared so low I never used 1st gear. So I basically drove it like it was a 5-speed. Guess if you're doing a lot of heavy towing 1st would be helpful, but man 1st is LOW.

Re: Wantin to switch to a 6speed

Well I'm not gonna use this truck to pull anything.. I'm just looking to get a bit more power an fuel economy. It has a 6 in lift an I'm thinking bout goin to a 10. So what tranny would be better? An could I use my old trans case?
