Synthetic oil question

I want to switch synthetic oil for the winter months. I was talking to my autos teacher and he said I shouldn't make the switch due to how many miles I have on the truck. (225k). Is this true? I'd hate to spend $130 on oil and have the truck use it all.

95 F-250 ECLB

6637 air intake, 3 inch dp to 4 inch exhaust, EBPV delete, ccv mod, glowshift gauges ( fuel pressure, boost, trans temp, pyrometer ) Dp tuner ( no start, stock, 80hp econo, 60hp tow)

Cobra 29 classic w/nightwatch, Wilson 1000 magnet mount, weather guard backrack, code 3 lightbar.

i switched to synthetic last winter and plan to do the same again! i didnt see any use at all and im 157k on the clock. it made alot easier starting in the winter. give it a try thats the only way you know if it will work for you.
