Sh:;y fuel milage

So I just installed the DP Tuner. Thursday night we headed out with the fifth wheel and bikes to the dunes. I'm guessing around 12,000 to 13,000 lbs. Cold weather no traffic, and better running truck from the sound of it and feel with the chip. I thought this will be great, better performance and better milage. Best milage so far 14 truck only, 8-9 towing. So after 180 miles I am getting nervous. Fuel gauge is rapidly falling and we are not there yet. My EGT's are from 800-1000 flats and 1000-1200 on hills boost is a max of 30 but sits around 15-20 on the flats. Well we Pull in to the gas station to check trailers and fill up and I barely got 7 mpg. What the hell!!!!! I get better mpg with no chip!!!!!

Thoughts??????

Re: Sh:;y fuel milage

I was in the 60hp tow on that fill up. I put it on the 40hp tow on this next one I just haven't filled up yet to know. But by the fuel gauge it doesn't seem any better. The drive is from Salt Lake up I-15 to Rexburge.

What size stage 2's? Stock turbo right? What differential gears and lastly size of Toyos?
Seeing lots of black smoke when empty or towing? To me sounds like mileage empty is low but not sure how fast ur drivin either.

My sig truck with the 1.15 was under the turbo because of 315 tires and 3:55 gears for legal speed limit where I drive here in Canada. Best I got for mileage empty with E4OD was 18 mpg (imperial gallons) after going to 1.0 much better low end performance. Just tracked yesterday pulling light utility trailer with 600lb ATV in it 17.65 mpg speed generally 60 miles per hour with some 70 uphill 6 mile long 6-8% grade. Difference now is ZF-5 tranny and non auto tranny tunes... Looking forward to runnin empty to compare.

This pull was 70-75 in OD about 99% of the time. Only had one hill that I had to come out of OD. EGT's never more than 1200.

Not sure what size they are. I had Zane at Wide Open do them. I will have to see if he has record of what ended up being done.
I am running 4.10's with 35's
The truck really doesn't smoke a whole lot. If I let it lug under load it will but as long as I keep the RPM's up and in the power band it is really clean.
On my way home I drove 60-65 and I might have moved up to 8 to 8.5 maybe but still this is really getting old at $4 to 4.50 a gallon!!!!!

Coming home I really took it easy. Boost for the most part was 6-15 lbs and 750-1000 EGT depending on the grade and following traffic. Did not smoke hardly at all and I held the RPM's at 2000.

Lots of air resistance pullin a 5rer at 70 miles per hour surprised you would get that good of mileage....What where you expecting to be getting?

Wondering if a 1.0 housing might help to get you into the power band sooner, I'd look to see what the guys in the towing section are doing...

Re: Sh:;y fuel milage

Well this last weekend I went on a 400 mile round trip. Before the trip I replaced the cam sensor with the (grey/purple oring) ford screwed up and didn't bring in the EBPS so I didn't have this one changed.

Not pulling a trailer and having the chip on economy I ended up with 12 mpg. Not bad, but still sucks. This is the best I have ever seen with this new motor though. I am going to get with wide open this next week to get some ideas and check the chip programing.

Any other thoughts of sensors or things to look at?
