4WD High to Low

I looked and looked for a thread for problems shifting from 4 wheel high to low. I know a couple other OBS guys that have the same issue. I can shift easily from 2WD to 4WD hi but cannot put it in 4WD low. WTF? I remember having to push the shifter down to put it into lo but it will not push down and let me put it in low. It's kinda stiff going from 2 to 4 but nothing too bad. Is this something that needs a whole new shifter and linkage or can this be remedied?

Re: 4WD High to Low

Check that pivot sleeved is not siezed/oxidated on xfer case. It's where the shiftet lever is attached to.

If I remember, I'll take a pic tomorrow.

Re: 4WD High to Low

on my mason dump that we snow plow with it rusted bad and I just used hack saw and cut the lock pin off an now I don't have to push it down.
Works perfect but just can't pull back too fast as there is no locl out any more.
I like it and the shift dedents in transfercase are still felt when you shift it. This fix took me about a minute as I never took anything off truck to cut the pin as you see in my pics. Yours may not be as bad as mine and you may be able to take apart the slider and lube it up but after years of this problem I decided enough of the push down lock out and time to remove it. Should have cut pin off a few years back and saved some aggivation.

Re: 4WD High to Low

What a good idea, never would have thought of that. Is it solid enough to keep still while going over some rough stuff?

Re: 4WD High to Low

Im sure this

is seized up on you. It would be wise on your part to take it off, then apart, clean and lubercate it. BEFORE you brake the $175 cast aluminum and have no shifter.

I went overboard and added grease fittings to mine

Looking for Blue 40-20-40 seat for OBS. PM me if any known

Thanks Brad, saving for crawling under the truck.

Where Brad drilled the grease fitting is were it siezes up.

I heard that the piece is obsolete; so don't break it.
