Different IPR, WTF????

Pulled the IPR from the 1/2 ton project yesterday only to find it covered in thick nasty oil. After cleaning with degreaser I noticed the end is flush and theres no way tp push on the plunger to see if its working. Also no noise from inside when shaken even though I cleaned vigorously in the holes. The working end looks like the piece is suposed to be out away from the tube but it wont move. Is this ok to disassemble or do I need to get it unstuck 1st????? Sorry no pics yet.

Doesn't roll with anyone or tag along to be cool...

Re: Different IPR, WTF????

Just got it apart, it seems the diff between this and the 1 I have is this 1 has a plug in the end kepping me from depressing the plunger. Is it safe to attempt to remove this?

Plug wont come out w/o destroying, the rest of the ele end came apart and was cleaned an rebuilt successfully, while the business end is still frozen. How do I make sure the plunger is moving w/o being able to access it?

Re: Different IPR, WTF????

Plug has been drilled and IPR is rebuilt. Never saw any info on a plug in the end b4, aprearantly it's not neccesary and will be going in the scrap can.

Mods feel free to kill this one since it was just a lot of me helping myself publicly.

Re: Different IPR, WTF????

If the end of the IPR looks like a gun barrell, it's the non edge filter type. If the end is solid, the IPR has the edge filter. Starting with engine serial number 187099, the edge filter was moved to the HPOP. Cheers!

So what does this mean now that I've taken the plug out?

Re: Different IPR, WTF????

The only diff between mine and the one on Tom's sticky is that mine had a soft plug in the end. Now they are the same, how does that equate to "needing a new IPR"?

Yours has the edge filter ...

It was designed to have the end closed off . It has to do with the design of the HPOP ..
