rough idle and no power only for a second with CEL

i seem to have a fuel or timing problem the truck will throw a check engine light and run really rough with no power for a second or two then be perfectly fine and no check engine light but sure as shoot does it again randomly within 5 min. I was thinking it was the CPS sensor but I'm not sure because it still has the mechanical fuel system and it might be the pump. It seems to be more and more frequent as i drive it so i didn't know if any of you guys have had the same problem. if not i will try to scan it tomorrow and see if it stored any codes.

WAG is UVCH burned . Fuel almost never sets a CEL (maybe a weak pump at WOT )

Scan it , most likely 1316 ( codes stored in the IDM )

A buzz test will give you the IDM codes ...

Re: rough idle and no power only for a second with CEL

i can't get a scanner until tomorrow but i was thinking could it be a bad ICP valve that would make sense why it runs fine sometimes and not so good other times. If it was a sensor it would be getting progressively worse but it seems to have a pattern, CEL comes on once every mile or so then get worse until it does it 5 times in one mile then doesn't do it at all for a day then goes back to doing it. It's just annoying! any ideas?

Smell the oil cap for burn't plastic smell and since you are taking the covers off, torque the Injectors down ( 10 lbs-ft)

Re: rough idle and no power only for a second with CEL

ok i pulled the plugs going to the valve covers and 2 of the glow plug prongs are burnt so bad it is melting the plastic and it looks like it burned through the side wall insulation and started to interfear with cylinders 1 and 2 injectors. I also saw that the wiring harness has been messed with before so i am wondering if i should just get a new one and try to prevent any further problems down the road. I pulled the valves covers to take a look at no wires are rubing or loose conections so would this glow plug interfearance connection be the problem?
