96 7.3 Problem!!!

Here lately when I go out to start my stroker to head to work I have to cycle threw the glow plugs 3 to 4 times before it will start. While driving the truck will just fall on its face for a second or 2. Sometimes it will do this as soon i start driving and sometimes not for about 15 minutes. Anyone got some ideas?
Thanks

Have you started it without the edge on there? How old are the glowplugs? How old is the oil?

By "fall on its face" do you mean loses power and rpm or feels like a restriction?

Re: 96 7.3 Problem!!!

You're not "cycling" the glow plugs. They stay on for up to two minutes when you first turn the key to RUN. Just leave the key in RUN for 20 seconds or so, then try starting it.

Maybe you think that when the WTS light goes off, the glow plugs go off. It's hard to guess where that myth came from, but for some reason, it's widespread, and it evidently came out of nowhere. But it's myth, in any event.

When I had the edge evo, in the extreme setting it would never want to start cold esspecially if it was cold outside. I installed new glow plugs and it would fire right up. You might wanna check the glow plug relay if its old too.

Re: 96 7.3 Problem!!!

I dont have the edge on anymore I got a ts chip about 4 months ago. The oil has a little less than 4k miles on it and when i say "falls on its face" its like the engine quits for a second and picks back up. The glow plugs are pretty old the relay is only about 2 months old.

When you experience the "fall on it's face" do you have the chip turned up or in stock position? Ts tunes or custom tunes?

Re: 96 7.3 Problem!!!

Yeah, the CPS Is probably the culprit, get one from international if possible, around 25 bucks. if your build date is after 6/96 get the newer part number, international switched parts #'s about that time
