no start this morning

Well i went out to jump into my truck and start it this morning. Its about 50 out. Right when I turn the key on I get a check engine light and the wait to start light doesnt come on. I hooked up a superchips to read the code and I get no response. It did this same thing Saturday morning. I hooked a snap on scan tool on it Saturday. Wouldn't read codes. I did a buzz test. All 8 injectors went off. The check engine light turned off and it fired up then.

Also I don't hear the glow plug relay clicking like it usually does.

Re: no start this morning

I'd start by checking fuses.

Re: no start this morning

Check maxi-fuse #22 under the hood. If it's blown, DON'T just replace it. Prime suspect is the fuel heater in the fuel bowl; it shorts out and blows this fuse, which also powers the PCM and the GP relay. So if it's shorted, it'll just blow another fuse. Search here for directions on how to unplug the heater (you don't really need it, supposedly). Disconnect it, THEN replace the fuse and try 'er again.

Re: no start this morning

I already don't have a fuel heater cause I deleted the fuel bowl. Also is there a way to test the gp relay?

Well when mine went out last time it had melted the rubber boot I had covering one of the posts. And had sent a crack down the whole thing cuz it was plastic POS. If you have a test light with ground wire you could at least check to see its getting power. I'm either not remembering or don't know how to check the relay.

Re: no start this morning

Key off, there should be battery voltage at one of the big terminals, and zero voltage at the other. Key on, there should be something less than "resting" battery voltage (expect it to be about 11 V) at the first of the above big terminals, and a little less at the other. The difference should be no more than about 0.3V. And of course, it should make a nice solid clicking sound.

So after the trick with the scan tool, are you getting the WTS light when you turn the key on (without the Snap-on)?

Re: no start this morning

There is a fuse in the panel inside the cab that powers your scanner port. mine blows all the time. change the fuse then scan codes.
