Excessive white smoke, poping from the intake, any help?

My buddy bought my 97 from me awhile back and today he had some troubles. He was about 160 miles into I trip when the truck started running awful at a gas station as he was fueling up. A heavy amount of white smoke, a poping sound from the intake, and it doesn't sound like its firing on all 8. No leaks of any kind, rosewood stage 1s that are a year old, fresh fuel filter, and no oil in the fuel. I don't have access to a scanner until Monday. Any ideas on where to start? On the plus side, my 6.0l pulled it home great!

Sounds like a Nozzle might have blown off.. Or he bent a Push rod.
My guess is it is injector related or Valve train related..

I hope other with more know how about these engines pipes up..

Nope he put diesel in it, that was the first thing I asked.

my 01 did the same thing, smoke lots of it. The motor would start and run and really was quite. Mine had gas in it. My buddy just knew he put diesel in it as the nozzle was green. I had to pull the fuel filter to figure it out. I just thought my rag had gas on it when I took it apart. I then took out the injectors and sent them to swamps for them to tell me I had gas in it. I wouldnt rull it out till I pulled the filter.

Popping out the intake is never a good sign. My guess is an intake valve is stuck open.

Re: Excessive white smoke, poping from the intake, any help?

Its not gas for sure, I pulled the filter 3 times, it's diesel. I pulled the drivers side valve cover to start checking pushrods and about halfway through I noticed an injector was unplugged. I don't know if it happened while I was pulling pushrods or if it was already unplugged. Could that cause similar symptoms?

Re: Excessive white smoke, poping from the intake, any help?

think it would cause a miss. The injector wouldnt fire. But not smoke. I wouldnt think

That's what I was thinking, but I have been mistaken once or twice before, I think....
