push button stsrt install

need the colors and functions of the wires in the ignition switch block.. want to interrupt the twist of the key to start and take that contact between those two wires and install a push to start button... basically just need the trigger wire from the twist of the key cylinder color and the start wire to the start solenoid wire color... if anyone sees any issues with this set up let me know please... just a mod for looks and fun... helps me wait for the glow plugs... I plan to pull the wires out of the blocks so the key twist will not function at all ...

Re: push button stsrt install

just thought I would post what I fount for anyone who wants to add in a start button with a negative trigger to aluminate the button... remove the switch block under the column pull the module apart and remove the red/ lt blue wire from the block this is your start trigger... one side of your button ... I found many choices for 12v signal to the switch in my case I used one that was hot with the ignition switch in the run position... the negative signal wire from the button to light it up will go to junction s215 from fuse 17 this is your wts indicator lights its hot when the key is on and grounds through black/pink wire # 16 pcm # terminal 80... with this set up the button lights as the wts functions and goes out at the same time ...thus your button mimics the wts function... I think it is quite bad ass... now when you twist the key nothing happens... with this no way to pre start before the glow plugs do their thing...

Re: push button stsrt install

on the way ! upgraded the steering wheel to the la carra fat wrap leather four spoke this thing nice... to pretty to graft the cruise control buttons on to so I just relocated them to the lower portion of the dash bezel ... man I got to say this should have been the factory set up it looks that good... pain in the ass but worth the super clean look of the retro wheel for sure... I will post how I did this and upload some pics subscribe it will be worth looking at... like I said it came out like it was made that way... will start with the push start button as well look it up on silver horse racing great guys ... the button is custom built for the ford mustang but will adapt to pretty much any ride... take a look...

Re: push button stsrt install

all right all ready you guys are harsh I am a busy guy these days with all the mods I got going just make dam sure you subscribe to all of them they are going to be good information with very clean work enough chatter sorry for the wait here are a few pics from the beginning... what you are looking at is the ignition block under the column it holds two of the three wires you will need to make this mod operable with this unique start button... it actually has all three wires as the wts light signal also is run through this block but just to be completely on the money I choose to retrieve the wts signal directly from the information cluster located on the dash bezel where the indicator is mounted before it runs through the ignition system... as you can see from the pics I don't butcher my wiring harness no ! no ! simply deconstruct the entire block and release the individual wire you need then attach the new lead or new wire you wish to duplicate or extent to another location by soldering it to the shank or shaft of the factory wire insert this way you can return to stock by simply unsoldering the new wire off the factory insert no harm to your harness... this is just me being overboard most wrench twisters just wire tap or split solder in a junction whatever works for you... this is what I have for you today will upload more later out of time but this is step one get your wiring all set up... also you will notice I have used isolation couplers to connect the button side of system to the new factory harness leads I created... stay tuned and check out the other mods I working on... thanks !

Re: push button stsrt install

after spending some time figuring out where to actually place the button it hit me , that's it perfect spot to implant the button with very little fab work... first thing off to the junkyard for some factory wire connectors/match wire and a couple of opal gray power points to mock up on... just need to make a short extension harness to move the power point to the passenger knee panel just below the vent this seemed like the best place I rarely use mine find myself usually going for the ash tray cigar lighter socket ... still nice to have this extra power point for the gps or whatever else you need ... then modify the other unit simply remove the door from the body of the unit and install the start button that it fits like a champ... was going to mount it next to the information cluster on the dash cluster bezel but after mocking it up on an old bezel thought it looked a bit in your face ... that is all I got for this mod pretty straight forward good luck if you go for it here are a few pics of how it turned out...

Cool mod! But damn, man, use some capitals and punctuation. It is so hard to follow your write-up, when it looks like the worlds longest run-on sentence. (No, I am not a teacher. Just had to write a TON of papers in school.)

Re: push button stsrt install

That looks great! I really like the idea of adding another power point for the passenger as well. It all looks factory! Very nice job.
