what are the pros and cons when running HIDs with OEM headlights vs Projector headlights?

just get the 02-04 OEM headlights and put the HID's in them... cheaper with the same effect...

Re: OEM headlights vs Projector headlights

HID's from what ive gathered are totally different and they dont use OEM bulbs. The only downside to HID's that ive found is no bright beams, but they looked plenty bright anyway. FWIW the sylvania silverstars are a nice step above stock and they wont break teh bank.

Re: OEM headlights vs Projector headlights

I was wondering more of the performance, beam pattern, adjustability etc of the HID in the OEM vs the projector headlight

IF you get the projector style systems you can keep your high beams also. I'm priced out some kits including the HIDs for aobut 500 bones

Id say run 05+OEM and silverstars. I switched to 05 headlights and the light output was much more improved. Then i did the diode mod, so that I could run the highs and lows at the same time. Im very impressed, and am soon going to buy silverstars. If they were avalible when I first got the headlights they would be in now, but I couldnt find them anywhere around.

What he said.

I have the clear factory ones in my truck and Mcculloch 6000k HIDS. They are bright as heck and actually take less watts to run because of the ballast.

2002 F350 DRW, 38r Turbo, Terminator T500, REG return fuel system, CTS Evo Custom tuned by Bill at Powerhungry Performance, bts converter, S&B intake, Snows Stage 3 Water/Meth. Mcculloch hids 6k.

Re: OEM headlights vs Projector headlights

I have HID's in my 05's and they are pretty dang bright. The brights are not much different on mine... they are completely plug and play.

Kinda spendy... you might want to settle for the 02 headlights and silverstars with and upgraded wiring harness...

Re: OEM headlights vs Projector headlights

I bought a different brand then the Silverstars but basically the same thing, and they improved alot on just the 99 headlights.... I have a set of 03 clear lights in the mail and I am gonna put the "super brights" in them.... I will report back with the "brightness output" when they get here....
