new tires/wheels

my 99 cc f-250 currently has a set of 36-12.50-16.5 military surplus noise makin junk tires on it, and as you may know pretty much nobody makes any 16.5 tires affordably anymore. im not 100% for sure but i think it has a leveling kit on the front since these tires rub something terrible on the back of the front fenderwell, and stock height in the back. my local tire shop has a killer deal on 285-75-16's and a set of 16x8 -6 offset wheels. will these look tiny on my truck? does anyone have pics of 285's on their super duty?

99.5 f-250 cc 4x4 lariat, 4" turbo back, silverline 6" tip, 3"lift 36" hummer tires. superchips cortex, built tranny, k&n intake tube with oversize filter/sock w/filterminder, WW, banks bighead, tons of chrome.

Re: new tires/wheels

285/75r16 on stock 16" wheels...they really look bigger in person than in the photo but overall they aren't very big on our trucks at all...I've noticed my speedo is 2 MPH slow with just this oversize tire on my truck! Hope this helps

Re: new tires/wheels

thanks guys, my main reason for going back to 285's is that the bias 36's kill my mileage and towing power, i figure i can gain some of each back with the 285's without sacrificing too much in the way of appearance. my local tire shop has been dealing in recap tires for a little over 10yrs now, and a friend of mine has had 3 sets of them on his 96 f-250 and swears by them. i can get a set of 285/75/16's 10 ply with the same tread pattern as a firestone destination m/t, with a 30,000mi warranty covering every part of the tire, including the carcass, for $130/apiece installed. what do you guys think?

Re: new tires/wheels

recaps have there good and bad...id rather see you put a 305/70 tire on there to fill it out more, 285s just look to narrow on these truck to me

Re: new tires/wheels

id like to but the only good deals he has are on 8" wide wheels, and the 305's are a special order and take 3-5 weeks.

Re: new tires/wheels

y don't u just keep the 16.5s and mastercraft makes a 33x12.50x16.5 reasonably priced i think and that way u don't have wheel/tire expense just tires...unless ur wantin to get a new wheel/tire combo....my .02

Re: new tires/wheels

the wheels i have now are faded badly and missing 3 center caps, i wish they were new i really like the pattern but theyre pitted badly and they dont make the center caps anymore.

Where you at? If in Ohio I have some BFG 33 12.5 16.5 sitting around. I even have rims. But not sure how good they are. 3 are great 1 was peeled off rim and run up on a flat bed flopping no visual damage. I even have rims.
