Painting interior pieces ?

Im thinking if it wasn't too much of a hassle i would like to paint my dash black in color right along with all the others. So Im wondering, I understand prepping but what is the best paint/ technique for doing such a thing and how long would it last ? trucks down for a while and I have some time to ponder on ways to go about this.

thanks

Re: Painting interior pieces ?

I used some dupli-color interior trim and dye paint.. In my opinion you should take the dash parts out so you can evenly coat them and have no over spray on anything else...

x2 on disassembling as much as possible. Like most painting the prep is the key and longest part. Disassemble and taping/masking and getting everything just right will be the most tedious part. You'll want to get everything good and clean and lastly wipe it down with some alcohol or an alcohol based cleaner, anything that will wipe clean and then evaporate/dissolve leaving no residue.

I would use some plastic dye, either from one of the many sponsors (what they sell for gauge pods to match.) I personally used a SEM plastic dye when I did my 08 center console, got it from Eastwood.com

now as far life of this stuff ? and I have had bad experiences with duplicolor. If i take the dash out it will be smoothed down and then sprayed like my quad pod. This dye you speak of how is it applied ?

thanks

I smoothed mine and hate it... I'm going with some texture soon. It's impossible to keep clean, as well as fingerprints and such.

They have them listed under "Interior Dye" but then the product lists it as a paint. Thinking about it now dye was definitely a wrong term to go with, it applies like a paint.

For application it is simply an aerosol spray. I used it on a fiberglass pod over some SEM texture spray, as well as on my gauge pod and my 08 console.

Here is the before and after on the console

Neither objects are directly in the sun like the top of the dash, but neither have faded at all and have been done for about 1.5 years.
