Tow Haul & 4-Wheel Drive Launch

I was just wondering what is the proper way to use the two haul and 4 wheel drive setting to get a quick launch? Do you just put it in 4 wheel drive and tow haul and leave them one through the whole run or do you turn them off as soon as you get going? Or should you not do either of them?

Never done the tow haul on a launch but i wouldnt do it. and 4wd is a good idea to launch in but it will not disengage until you let up on the pedal or it will slam out one of the two.

Yeah from what I've heard the idea behind using the tow haul is that your TC will lock up sooner, giving you better acceleration.

Re: Tow Haul & 4-Wheel Drive Launch

You have a 7.3 with tow/haul? Or are you referring to the OD lockout?

Re: Tow Haul & 4-Wheel Drive Launch

IIRC the last 7.3 in 03 had it. I could be wrong but seem to recall seeing it. For the most part I see it on the 6.0 5R100s

Re: Tow Haul & 4-Wheel Drive Launch

According to page 120 and 123 of the owners manual for the 03, tow haul is on the 6.0 and not the 7.3.

Re: Tow Haul & 4-Wheel Drive Launch

Well there ya go. I know I had seen them on 03s but with the engines change mid year is was a bit confusing. funny thing is they were still using the 4r100 in 03 on the early 6.0 so it must be a PCM change only.

Re: Tow Haul & 4-Wheel Drive Launch

Could always time it, and see
But you will have to turn it on or off really ,to get your od gear
Otherwise you will hit the rev limiter and defuel.
Personally I just use 4wd.

Very fun to launch in 4wd but very good way to break stuff I've learned the hard way.
