sterling differences 05-08

what are the differences between the 05 rear end and the 08 rear end?
can I rebuild and install the 08 in the 05 truck?

Sterling 10.5 99-2016 12.83 disks same

Starting 2011 they had electronic lockers?

Also 05+ dana 60 is more beefy and wider for better turning radius.

1979 chevy c30 dually, sm465, 373's? Converted to 6.2 diesel, pump turned up and advanced a hair.(wrecked)
1994 ford F350 dually 4X4: 7.3 powerstroke, 5 speed. 6637, straight pipe into dual stacks. Cooper discoverer at/3's.
2010 Jetta TDI 40 or so mpg :flippa:

actually yes it does. the pinion bearing changes are interesting.
just went through a bit of that putting a Grizzly in an 05 as the install kit was for a 10.25

not sure what year the change was, but in either 05, or 06 the brakes became bigger than the older trucks.

looks like all the 05 stuff attaches to the 08 sterling.
the PS parking brake cable bracket that on the 05 attaches to the PS shock mount is different.
the driveshaft flange differs on the 08 in that the 08 has a damper on the flange and the 05 has it on the driveshaft, i put the 05 yoke on the 08 axle for the install

08 brake pads are different, just enough to not fit the 05 stuff. the little tab where the return spring attaches is wider

Those engineers have to always change things up a bit. Not always for the better, but a change justifies their existence.
